2008 Announcements
December 15, 2008
The North Lake gate committee (Patty Malocek, Chris Haag and Bruce Skinner), on behalf of the North Lake Board has agreed with the gate committee from Middle Island to have the security gate closed 24 hours a day starting at December 18th.
Because of recent rural burglaries near South
Bend, Prairie Home and in Saunders County the following gate operations will
start Thursday December 18, 2008.
1. The gate will be closed 24 hours a day during the weekday starting December
18, 2008
2. The gate will be open 8am -5pm on Saturdays and Sundays.
3. The gate will be open on December 24th and 25th and again on December 31 and
January 1st.
4. The gate committees from Middle Island and North Lake will meet in mid
January to evaluate the convenience and effectiveness of the gate being closed
during the weekday.
If you are having guests or special deliveries ( Menards or satellite service
not UPS or propane) you will have to give them your entry code to get through
the gate or they can call from the gate and you may let them in from your phone.

Sunday December 7, 2008
The North Lake gate committee (Patty Malocek, Chris Haag and Bruce Skinner), on behalf of the North Lake Board has agreed with the gate committee from Middle Island to have the security gate closed 24 hours a day starting at 5:00 p.m. Sunday evening, January 4, 2009.
The gate WILL BE OPEN from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays but closed 24 hours per day the rest of the week.
I want to express my appreciation for the cooperation of Middle Island in this matter. I think everyone knows they wanted the gate closed 24/7. Last month they agreed to wait until after the holidays to implement any changes and now they have agreed to let the gate be open on weekends at our request.
However, it has been stipulated that if they have vandalism or thefts during the weekend hours when the gate is open, they will press us to close it 24/7.
In talking with them I have become more aware of the problems they have with trespassers using their lake and 'casing' their properties.
Thank you in advance for your support.
Bruce Skinner

Greetings from the Ladies on the Lake!
At one of our monthly gatherings, a conversation took place regarding the tasty treats we share each month and we began asking each other for recipes. That discussion led to talk about the delicious dishes Northlake members bring to the potlucks throughout the year at our beach gathers. To make a long story short...the idea to compile a cookbook of those North Lake recipes was originated.
The Ladies on the Lake invite you or any of your family members to submit recipes, either typed or printed, on or before October 1st, 2008. Recipe categories are as follows:
Appetizers and Beverages
Soups, Salads and Vegetables
Meat, Poultry and Seafood
Main Dishes and Casseroles
Breads and Rolls
Desserts
This and That (Misc.)
We are hoping to have the cookbook printed and available in time for Christmas giving! Thank you in advance for sharing your recipes with all of the North Lake members! Please send your recipes to Deb Foster, Cabin 46 or Mickie Clements, Cabin #114.
Sincerely,
The Ladies on the Lake

In the July lake minutes I mentioned that Jon Simon was going to look into some kind of recycling program at the lake.
As part of that investigation, he would like to know who would be interested a weekly curbside recycling program. Any potential service provider will need to know the interest level so that they can weigh the cost to send the truck here versus the number of participants. A rough cost estimate might be $10 or $20 dollars per household per month for those wanting the service.
If you are interested (or have any comments or feedback), Jon would like you to e:mail him. His e:mail address is: jon.j.simon1(at)gmail.com

Ashland Disposal had the drain plugs removed from their trucks do the large amount of rainwater being picked up from garbage cans and dumpsters. This has resulted in liquid and small amount of glass and other debris spilling on our road when they picked up our garbage. Ashland Disposal has been notified and will re-install the plugs before they pick up any more trash at North Lake. However, this has left some unsightly debris and dangerous glass for bare feet and bicycle tires.
The board is asking everyone to pitch in and sweep up the mess by your homes and any neighbors that are not at the lake.

Work on the gate will be underway shortly. We expect to have it operational the week after the 4th of July. We are now taking orders for remote openers. Any ordered now are guaranteed to be here prior to the gate being operational. There are two types, one that clips on the sun visor and a key chain model for $22 each.
Please note the quantities that you want and send a check to Cheri Minchow 16501 Lake Park Dr. South Bend NE 68058 payable to North Lake Association. Remote openers will be available to be ordered at a later date but cannot be guaranteed to be here prior to the gate.
Boat storage:
We are in the process of getting all boats and trailers behind the locked gate. There are numerous items stored in the boat yard that have not been used for a number of years. Please extend the courtesy to your neighbors by disposing of any unwanted boats, trailers or shore stations. If you do not have a way of disposing of unwanted items, contact a board member. The board is looking into someone that would haul any junk away. We prefer to do this on a volunteer basis rather than have WS&G haul away-unmarked items. Remember all items MUST have a lot number or name or they are subject to being hauled away. Please have this done by July 10th. Keys to the boat storage area are available for $1, contact Pat Lemmers # 25.
ATV’s:
Remember ALL ATV’s including guests must have a cabin number on them. Please be respectful of your neighbors and have adequate mufflers on any vehicle operated on the lake or road.
Fishing:
Guest fishing is allowed only at your lot and if a guest is fishing in a boat the cabin owner is suppose to be with them. There is no guest fishing boats allowed on the lake.
General:
A number of people have spent countless volunteer hours to make our community a better place to live. Please chip in by picking up a downed limb, a piece of trash or any debris on the road or common areas. Ask someone from the beautification committee, Bruce Skinner, how you can become more involved.
June 4, 2008
Just a reminder to everyone on North Lake that the Summer Kick-Off/Get Acquainted Party is this Friday, June 6th starting at 6:00 p.m. at Beer Bottle Beach. Grilled chicken along with plates & silverware will be provided. Bring your own drinks. Even numbered cabins are asked to bring a dessert or hors d’oeuvres, and odd numbered cabins are to bring their choice of a salad, bread, or a side dish. It’s a great chance to meet new people and to catch up with old friends after the long winter, so hope to see you all there!
There will be a Board meeting prior to the party on Friday starting at 5:30. If you have an item you would like discussed, please contact a Board member today to get your topic put on the agenda.
The ladies of the lake will be hosting a late afternoon/early evening margarita party on July 16th. More info later, but keep the date open. All ladies invited.
One last news item: I received a call last night from a cabin owner whose empty boat trailer had all the tires/wheels/hubs, etc. stolen over the last couple of days. This trailer was not parked in the locked boat storage area, but was just outside the fence. This is the season where we seem to have the most trouble with vandals and thieves, so please be on the look out for folks who are not authorized to be in the area and call the Cass County Sherriff if needed.
Have a good week!
