Nebraska Ice Storm

On January 1st after I-80 opened I drove to Denver for a conference. Driving the 100 mile stretch between York and Lexington was an experience I will never forget. Two to three inches of rain fell during the last days of the year, and froze where it landed. Everything was coated with ice. Power and telephone poles snapped under the weight of the ice, and numerous trees were down. Blades of were transformed into icicles. People were ice skating down the streets in Kearney, and cars were coated with 2-3 inches of ice.

Below are pictures I took. If you want to see more pictures, a Storm Chaser was in the area and posted mind-blowing pictures here: December 31, 2006 and January 1, 2007.
